OP there is a short list off the top of my head of the kind of people you should try to learn from. But for some, trying to do a faithful recreation of a beat is a great learning experience as well, just don't get too caught up in the details or subtleties and make them fact in your mind as every song is different.īob Power/Ken "Duro" Ifill / Ken Lewis /Mike Dean/Young Guru/Mixed By Ali/ Dave Pensado/Manny Marroquin/Marcella "Ms. I personally am not one who tends to re-engineer much, my brain is not wired like that.

I know that this is very generic advice but it likely will get you sounding more like your favorite producer, or more likely, allowing you to figure out how to put your own sonic imprint on your work. Rarely can on afford this over other equipment when first starting out so most of us don't usually do this step for a long time. This usually comes in time but I wouldn't consider it a bad investment to do for educational purposes either.

Get one of you songs professional mixed so you can understand that were you stopped in your mix is far from the ending point in the context of mixing a song. If you can mix in a broad sense, it's easier to learn how people do specific things you enjoy and you don't need them to tell you how they did it, you often can figure it out if you have a broader understanding of mixing Learn to mix in a broad sense before you try to fine hone your sound. In the same vein as above, it's much easier to mix if you avoid things competing with each other. Compose and arrange with other elements considered. It's a lot easier to mix something when you have a good starting point. I am speaking in both the quality of sound, and picking one that has the sound you are going for. Use a good sample or sound source at the beginning. What are your thoughts on this?A few that come to mind: Go watch some of the vids on waves yt page and some Pensados place. Stop worrying and comparing and just do you. whats your take on this beat? am i wrong about the level being ok or is it too low?
Heres the beat of mine, that i was referring to.
my beat was a little bit louder(not by much) than Johny Juliano's so i feel ok about my beat. it doesnt need to be as loud as the other producers. i thought "damn my level is still too low" then i listened to johnny juliano beats and realized, his mixes are cleaner than these other producers and not as loud. now i was also listening to beats from some producers i like who dont have as good of mixing as lets say johnny juliano, but it still sound decent. i was listening to my most recent mixed beat (i'll provide a link) and i thought it was at a good master level. truth is, the actual producers dont have that loud of masters at all.Well not as loud as people think. i noticed that people look at producers like johnny juliano and wonder how they get clean mixes while still keeping it loud. i am one of those people, but heres what i noticed a few minutes ago. I know a lot of producers out there listen to their favorite producer online and want to know how to get a mix like them.
